Mr. Qarib Ur Rahman Labib is an expert in Islamic finance and corporate law, specializing in Islamic banking and finance. He completed his LLM in Islamic commercial law and is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic law with a focus on Islamic public finance at the International Islamic University, Islamabad.
Mr. Labib began his banking career as a member and chairman of Shariah
boards in various banks and financial institutions from 2014 to 2020.
He now leads Schema Legal Services, a boutique law firm in Afghanistan
specializing in corporate law and Islamic financial services. At Schema, he
advises on the negotiation, review, and structuring of Sharia-compliant
transactions and drafts and reviews legal documents, policies, procedures, and
Islamic modes of finance. He has provided and been part of teams delivering
legal and Islamic finance services to numerous international and local
corporate clients, including banks and financial institutions.
In addition to his professional work, Mr. Labib is dedicated to academia. He
serves as an Assistant Professor at Nangarhar University and has previously
been a visiting lecturer at the International Islamic University Islamabad. He
is passionate about shaping the next generation of legal and Islamic finance
professionals.
With over a decade of experience in the banking industry, Mr. Labib has
played a crucial role in reviewing and approving Sharia-compliant instruments
and modes of finance, addressing queries, and providing guidance on Islamic
finance issues. He advises on designing new Sharia-compliant instruments,
Islamic Modes of Finance and ensures that financing products, services,
policies, and agreements of banks comply with Sharia principles. His
responsibilities also include issuing and renewing Sharia compliance certificates
for financing products, manuals, agreements, workflows, profit and loss sharing
mechanisms, and more.
